Building Community Through Equity and Justice

Beyond Borders Youth Network was proud to attend the 2026 Canadian National Conference on Equity, Race and Justice in Ottawa.

The conference brought together leaders, advocates, educators, and community organizations from across Canada to discuss systemic racism, inequities, and barriers affecting Indigenous, immigrant, and racialized communities. Conversations focused on housing, health equity, employment, justice, youth leadership, and the importance of moving beyond awareness into meaningful action and accountability.

As a youth-led organization, it was powerful for BBYN to be part of spaces where youth voices, lived experiences, and community collaboration were centered. One of the biggest takeaways from the conference was the reminder that youth are not just future leaders. They are leaders right now.

The experience reinforced the importance of creating safe and inclusive spaces where immigrant and refugee youth feel heard, connected, and empowered to shape the communities they are part of. It also highlighted the value of storytelling, cultural connection, partnership-building, and advocacy in creating lasting change.

We are returning to Yukon inspired, energized, and even more committed to strengthening youth leadership, expanding community partnerships, and continuing to build spaces rooted in belonging, equity, and inclusion.

Thank you to everyone who made our attendance possible.
